Ο Iούλιος ήταν πάντα ο πιο αγαπημένος μου μήνας, ο γενέθλιος, ο μήνας των διακοπών, της θάλασσας… Μια φυγή από την καθημερινότητα, μια απόσταση από τη βουή της πόλης, μια μικρή δόση μαγείας σε έναν γεμάτο σκληρό ρεαλισμό κόσμο. Σε αυτό το τεύχος της Vogue Greece είχαμε την τεράστια τιμή να φωτογραφίσει για μας τη δική του θάλασσα ο πιο σημαντικός σκηνοθέτης της γενιάς του, ο πολυβραβευμένος Γιώργος Λάνθιμος. Με την κάμερά του διηγείται μια καλοκαιρινή ιστορία στην τσιμεντένια Αθήνα, ταξιδεύοντάς μας νοερά στις θάλασσες μέσα μας. Στις επόμενες σελίδες, σειρά έχουν οι αναμνήσεις από την Ύδρα του Paul Smith και από την Πάτμο της Yolanda Edwards, με ενδιάμεσες στάσεις σε μικρά και μεγάλα νησιά γεμάτα χρώμα, ανεμελιά, γεύσεις και όμορφες ιστορίες. Θα μάθουμε όμως και ιστορίες ανθρώπων που έχουν μάθει να κολυμπούν στα βαθιά από νωρίς και να βγαίνουν νικητές. Όπως ο 29χρονος Simon Porte Jacquemus, ο σχεδιαστής μόδας που εμπνέεται από τον Jean- Luc Godard και όλη η fashion κοινότητα μιλάει γι’ αυτόν. Ή η Lisette Oropesa, η 35χρονη σοπράνο με τα δύο επιφανέστερα βραβεία όπερας στο ενεργητικό της, η οποία ανυπομονεί να έρθει στην Ελλάδα και «να μας αλλάξει τα φώτα», ερμηνεύοντας τον ρόλο της ζωής της, τη Βιολέττα στην Τραβιάτα της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής. Θα γνωρίσουμε και τον fashion forward τραγουδιστή Μahmood, που μιλάει αποκλειστικά στον Βλάση Κωστούρο για την τεράστια επιτυχία του Soldi, για τα εναντίον του σχόλια του ακροδεξιού αντιπροέδρου της ιταλικής κυβέρνησης και την ξενοφοβία στην εποχή του Instagram. Η Nicole Kidman, τέλος, που επιστρέφει με τη δεύτερη σεζόν του πολυβραβευμένου Big Little Lies, αποκαλύπτει γιατί πλέον δεν φοβάται να ανοιχτεί στους ανθρώπους.
Αυτό το καλοκαίρι, ας προσπαθήσουμε να βάλουμε στην άκρη για λίγο τις έγνοιες και να απολαύσουμε το «ταξίδι», ο καθένας στη θάλασσά του. Να γελάσουμε με την καρδιά μας, να ζήσουμε την κάθε στιγμή με τους ανθρώπους μας, να χαθούμε στο απόλυτο μπλε της Ελλάδας.

The seas inside us
July has always been my favorite month. The month of my birthday, vacation, the sea… An escape from daily life, some distance from the city bustle, a little dose of magic in world filled with cruel realism. In this issue of Vogue Greece, we had the great honor of featuring the most important director of his generation, award-winning Giorgos Lanthimos. Through his lens, he narrates a summer story in Athens of concrete, mentally taking us on a journey to the seas inside us. In the following pages, we have Paul Smith’s memories from Hydra and Yolanda Edwards’ from Patmos, while making stops at small and big islands teeming with color, carefreeness and beautiful stories. We will also learn stories of people that have learnt to swim in the deep and emerge triumphant. Like 29-year-old Simon Porte Jacquemus, the fashion designer that draws inspiration from Jean-Luc Godard, whom the whole fashion industry is talking about. Or Lisette Oropesa, the 35-year-old soprano with the two most notable opera awards under her belt, who looks forward to “rocking our world”, performing the part of her life, Violetta in La Traviata by the Greek National Opera. We will also get to know fashion forward singer Mahmood, who talks exclusively to Vlassis Kostouros about the huge success of his song “Soldi”, for the Italian government’s right wing vice president’s comments against him, and xenophobia in the time of Instagram. Finally, Nicole Kidman, who returns with the second season of award-winning series Big Little Lies, reveals why she is no longer afraid of opening up to people.
This summer, let’s all try to put our worries aside and enjoy the “journey”, each at their own sea. To laugh our hearts out, to live each moment with our beloved ones, to get lost in Greece’s blue.
