Editorial Νοεμβρίου: «Εσύ μου μιλάς με λέξεις, ενώ εγώ σε κοιτάζω με συναισθήματα»*

Για μένα, αυτό ήταν πάντα οι ταινίες – συναισθήματα, όχι τόσο λέξεις. Ο έρωτας στα μάτια του Jesse, όταν η Celine (Before Sunset), υπό τους ήχους της Nina Simone, του λέει όλο νόημα «Μωρό μου, θα χάσεις αυτό το αεροπλάνο» και εσύ ξέρεις ότι, επιτέλους, αυτοί οι δύο θα καταλήξουν μαζί. To νοιάξιμο της Nicole στην τελευταία σκηνή του Marriage Story, όπου σκύβει να δέσει τα λυμένα κορδόνια του Charlie, μετά τους ομηρικούς τους καβγάδες και την απόφασή τους να ακολουθήσουν χωριστούς δρόμους. Tα υγρά μάτια της Termeh στο A Separation, όταν ο δικαστής τής ζητά να επιλέξει με ποιον γονιό θέλει να μείνει τελικά, και εκείνο το σφίξιμο στο στομάχι όταν πέφτουν οι τίτλοι τέλους και η απάντησή της δεν μαθαίνεται ποτέ. O πόνος της Ida στην ομώνυμη ταινία, όταν μαθαίνει για τον θάνατο της Wanda. Βγάζει για λίγο τη στολή της δόκιμης καλόγριας, φοράει τα στιλέτο της θείας της, καπνίζει, πίνει, χορεύει, σε μια προσπάθεια να έρθει ξανά για λίγο κοντά της.

To τεύχος που κρατάτε στα χέρια σας είναι για τρίτη χρονιά αφιερωμένο στο σινεμά, στις ταινίες που μας σημάδεψαν, μας όρισαν, μας έκαναν να νιώσουμε κάτι. Εδώ στη Vogue Greece είμαστε ιδιαίτερα περήφανοι που για πρώτη φορά στην ευρωπαϊκή ιστορία της Vogue έχουμε το πρώτο solo ανδρικό εξώφυλλο, με έναν καλλιτέχνη που τόσο με τη μουσική του όσο και με την οσκαρική ερμηνεία του στο Dallas Buyers Club μας άγγιξε βαθιά και ουσιαστικά. You speak to me in words and I look at you with feelings”*

This is what movies have always been for me – feelings, not words. Love in Jesse’s eyes, when Celine (Before Sunset) tells him “Baby, you are gonna miss that plane” with Nina Simone playing in the background, and you just know that those two will end up together. Nikole showing she still cares about Charlie in the last scene of Marriage Story, when she bends to tie his shoelaces after all their fighting and their decision to follow separate paths in life. Termeh’s wet with tears eyes in A Separation, when the judge asks her to choose which of her two parents she wants to live with, and that hollow feeling in the stomach when the credits roll and the answer is never announced. The titular character’s pain in Ida, when she learns about Wanda’s death. She takes off her novitiate habit, wears her aunt’s stilettos, smokes, drinks and dances, in an attempt to feel closer to her.

The issue in your hands is dedicated to cinema, to the films that made and defined us, the films that made us feel something. Here in Vogue Greece we are extremely proud to have the first solo male cover in the European history of Vogue, with an artist that has touched us deeply and profoundly with both his music and his academy award-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Jared, who stars in House of Gucci, the film that cinema aficionados everywhere are waiting for, is photographed and speaks exclusively to Vogue Greece and our International Editor at Large, Sarah Bailey, about his tumultuous life, his fighter of a mother, and, of course, his eccentric style.

I, for one, am waiting for Thessaloniki International Film Festival to begin, to find myself in dark movie theaters, to get lost in the magical world of films and to dream again. So, see you in the cinemas that we have missed so much, and let us all enjoy the screenings!
