Like most of us, I am taking recommendations from the experts. To play our part, I’m pausing @thesculptsociety studio classes. Instead, I feel so lucky to be able to provide an at-home workout option through my app. By extending my free trial to 14 days for new members through my website (click link in my bio), we can all be in this together; just because we’re working out from home doesn’t mean we are working out alone. A flashback to a few weeks ago when @annielonglife and I would squeeze in a workout together during our busy days working on @activeescapes 💪🏼 (this is one of my follow along workouts from my app #freshbodyfitmind 😁) I would be coaching and taking activities for most of the day while Annie would be preparing all of our meals (I still don’t know how she managed to make 3 amazing healthy meals a day for all 25 of us!! 😱) We would quickly sweat it out together somewhere between cleaning up after lunch & preparing the afternoon training session with the crew 😬 Anyway… I wanted to share this because I know at the moment things are pretty cray cray around the world with the effects of Corona Virus (COVID-19). Some of you are in lockdown in your homes, some limited to where you can go, your gym might be closed, transport might be out of the question or, you are just keeping your trips out to public spaces to a minimum… Keeping fit can be hard when you are thrown out of your regular routine & freedoms. So in a time where you might be wondering what you can do, remember that I have a whole bunch for FREE workouts on my page that need NO EQUIPMENT and minimal space 🙌🏼 …and, there are also HEAPS of real-time, follow along workouts, yoga & YogaSculpt classes on my app (which you can try, commitment free for 2 weeks ☺️) that will give you the luxury of having a live coach & step-by-step guidance without having to leave your home! 👌🏼 I have always been such a big advocator of fuss free training that you can do anywhere. How is it possible to eat junk food and shed body fat? Stay in an overall calorie deficit and fit in a modest portion of treats and you’ll be fine. ⁣ ⁣ One of the most well-known studies by Surwit et al. (1997) found NO DIFFERENCE in fat loss between high sucrose and low sucrose groups. This means that, when calories and protein are matched, fat loss results are equivalent. ⁣ ⁣ A modest proportion (10-20%) of your daily intake coming from discretionary calories has not only been found to have no negative impact on your health but may also be better for your mental health, with less eating disordered behaviors and symptoms, less body image issues, less binge eating yo-yo dieting, less depression and anxiety, and better quality of life (Clark, 1986; Fairburn et al., 2003; Stewart et al., 2002; Teasdale et al., 2001). Further, those who engage in more regimented, all-or-nothing eating behaviors actually are MORE likely to overeat (Westenhoefer 1991) and have higher bodyweight eventually (Smith et al., 1999). ⁣ ⁣ Why is it, then, that so many swear up and down that junk food makes them fat – or prevents them from shedding body fat? This is typically because every time they do indulge, they overeat, thus putting themselves in a calorie surplus. Correlation does not equal causation.⁣ ⁣ No, you do not HAVE to eat junk food. There’s a big difference between not indulging because you choose not to (but know that it’s fine if you do) versus not indulging because you don’t understand calorie balance. ⁣ ⁣ You’re not a better person because you turned down a cookie and have a miserable, restricted diet.
